| Julie Ortolon: Drive Me Wild | |||
Handsome TV anchor Brent Michaels returns to his home town -- a place he hates -- at the request of his only friend from their shared school days, Laura Beth Morgan. The celebrity guest on the town's Dating Game (a fundraiser to restore old houses) Brent chooses Laura Beth as his date sight unseen. As expected, sparks fly. Laura's secretly nourished crush, a leftover from high school, kicks into high gear, and so do her lusty hormones. Although he denies being capable of love, Brent falls for the beautiful and desirable woman shy Laura Beth became while Brent climbed his way to the top of the broadcasting heap. The date begins as expected, but shy Laura wants to visit a local dive. Brent accedes to her wishes, and one thing leads to another. They indulge in some rather childish and illegal antics -- such as drag racing with a local redneck and outrunning a pursuing policeman -- and damage the underside of Brent's very expensive auto. The local garage sends for parts, forcing Brent to rent a car for his drive back to the big city. As expected, Laura Beth undertakes to return Brent's car to its proper home -- the city, of course. But then, her father tells her, "If you go, don't come back." She goes. Competently written but episodic, Drive Me Wild gives the reader a pleasant but not-to-be-taken seriously romp through the lives of two likable -- if somewhat emotionally retarded -- lusty and lusting people.
